Couch & furniture disposal in Boston, MA
Last checked: 2026-10-24 against the official sources below.
Short answer: No appointment needed: furniture goes out with curbside trash (or donate it).
What the official sources say about this item
- The City lists furniture as an item that does NOT require special collection: donate it or put it out with curbside trash.
- Special collection appointments are only for Freon and CRT items; the City says it does not collect special items without an appointment, but furniture is not one of them.
- The City's pages reviewed do not state a per-week piece limit or size limit for curbside furniture; check the Trash Day app directory or 311 for a specific piece.
- Futons (as furniture) go out with curbside trash; the mattress program does not take them.
How to arrange it
- No booking needed. Put it out on your regular trash day. Look up your day with the City's Waste Collection Schedule search.
- Questions: 311 or 617-635-4500.
Rules change, and where a source is unclear we say so. Confirm with the city (311) before setting anything out.
Paid option: junk removal
Not eligible for city pickup (for example, a larger apartment building) or need it gone sooner? A private junk removal service can haul items from inside your home for a fee. [Partner link not yet active]
Disclosure: Free official options are always listed first. If a paid-removal link appears, it may be an affiliate link and we may earn a commission at no cost to you. It never changes what we recommend.
